 Mechan Controls plc has announced the launch of its new MAGNASAFE MS7 non-contact safety switch for machine guards. The tamper-resistant switch works in conjunction with a coded magnetic actuator that prevents the system from being bypassed or improperly used. The switch and actuator both measure 87.5 x 27.2 x 13.5mm but, despite its compact size, the MS7 features three contacts – dual safety contacts and an auxiliary – so it affords a high degree of safety and helps to eliminate unnecessary stoppages. Designed and manufactured in the UK, the new MS7 is supplied pre-wired with either a 3 or 6m cable and is designed for use on equipment that is regularly hosed down, so it is well suited for use in hygiene-critical industries such as the food, pharmaceutical and packaging sectors. Produced in red ABS, it is fully encapsulated, has an IP67 rating and is UL / CSA approved. The MS7 features a 8-10mm non-contact switching distance and is both easy to install and tolerant of vibration and misalignment. It is capable of 300mA switching and has an operating temperature range of between -10 and +55 degrees Celsius. “With an industry standard fitting, the new MS7 is designed for quick and easy installation,” said Mechan Controls Sales Director, Peter Knowles. “Unlike some of its predecessor products, it has three contacts rather than two and may be used as part of category 3 systems or higher, depending on the control units that are specified.
